Ahead of International Museum Day on May 18, in order to give full play to the museum’s social education functions and foster among young people a deep love for Tianzhushan and strong affection for their hometown, Tianzhushan UNESCO Global Geopark, together with the Qianshan Youth Extracurricular Activity Center, organized the 4th “Little Docent” Selection Contest at the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum on May 17.

After intense competition in the preliminary round, a total of 24 outstanding contestants stood out and advanced to the final.

The contest was held in a lively atmosphere. The young contestants appeared confident, composed, and graceful. With vivid language and great enthusiasm, they introduced Tianzhushan’s unique geological wonders, rich biodiversity resources, and the long-standing culture of Wan in an engaging and expressive manner, winning warm applause from both the judges and the audience and fully demonstrating the diligent, thoughtful, and positive spirit of today’s youth.

The judges conducted a comprehensive evaluation and offered detailed comments based on the contestants’ presentation content, language skills, and overall stage presence. In the end, 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes, and 6 third prizes were awarded. The winners were also appointed as “Little Docents” of the Tianzhushan Museum and joined the museum’s volunteer docent team to provide free public guided tours for visitors during holidays.

As a science popularization and education brand activity of the Tianzhushan Museum, the “Little Docent” Selection Contest has, over the years, continuously provided young people with a high-quality platform to enter museums, learn about natural and cultural heritage, and develop their comprehensive abilities.

This contest not only stimulated young people’s strong interest in exploring geological science and inheriting local culture, but also cultivated a group of young volunteer communicators for cultural and museum-related knowledge. Next, the Tianzhushan Geopark Museum will continue to carry out regular training for “Little Docents,” volunteer presentations, and other featured activities, so as to fully fulfill the museum’s role as a base for science education and cultural nurturing. In this way, the geological and cultural heritage will take root in young hearts, and the story of Tianzhushan will be told through youthful voices.
